Kent Nagano was the music director of the Lyon Opera from 1988 to 1998. In 2015, he became the General Music Director of the Hamburg State Opera and Chief Conductor of the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg. He comes back to Lyon for a Beethoven special of three works revolving around heroism: the opening of Egmont, incidental music written for a Goethe tragedy, concert aria “Ah! Perfido” featuring the grandeur of operatic soprano Nicole Car, and the monument that is the Sinfonia Eroica, composed “in celebration of the memory of a great man”.
