Barbara Skora is a German-Polish mezzo-soprano. She first studied at the Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, in the class of Magdalena Idzik, and went on to train at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover (HMTM), honing her craft as a soloist with Marek Rzepka. She took part in several masterclasses taught by Brigitte Fassbaender, Clarry Bartha, Dorothea Röschmann and Claudia Visca. She won awards in several international competitions in the Czech Republic, Poland, Italy and Germany, including the prize of the Deutsche Oper, Komische Oper and Staatsoper Berlin at the Bundeswettbewerb Gesang Berlin, as well as awards at the 78th Geneva International Music Competition and the DEBUT International Singing Competition. A recipient of a Mozart Labor scholarship, she made her stage debut at the Würzburger Mozartfest.
She sung the parts of Dorabella in Così fan tutte (Mozart) and Bradamante in Alcina (Handel) at the Oper auf dem Lande, as well as the Witch in Königskinder (Humperdinck), the Gamekeeper’s Wife in The Cunning Little Vixen (Janáček) and Orpheus in L’Inferno dentro me (a Baroque production based on works by Caccini, Charpentier, Hasse, Locke, Pergolesi, Purcell, Rameau, Rossi, Sartorio, A. Scarlatti and Telemann) at the HMTM in Hanover. In 2024–2025, she performed the role of a Noble Orphan in Der Rosenkavalier (R. Strauss) at the Staatsoper Hannover and Sister Mathilde in Dialogues des Carmélites (Poulenc) at the Staatstheater Braunschweig. In 2025–2026, she played the parts of Flora in La Traviata (Verdi) at the Staatsoper Berlin, Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus (J. Strauss) as part of the Oper auf dem Lande project, and Zulma in L’Italiana in Algeri (Rossini) with the Fondazione I Teatri di Reggio Emilia. In 2026, Barbara Skora joined the Lyon Opera Studio, where she will spend two seasons.
