In a few words

Based on a libretto by Colette, this is a lyrical fantasy composed by Ravel, with a score that mixes jazz, polka, the waltz and even a cheese grater!

Introductory

Synopsis
Banished to his room until dinner because he has been lazy, an angry child takes his frustration out on the animals and objects around him. He throws the tea service around, tortures a squirrel and a cat, and rips up first the upholstery and then his books. Suddenly, as if by magic, his innocent victims come alive and decide to take their revenge.

A lyrical fairyland
Written in 1916 by Colette, then entrusted to Ravel, L'Enfant et les sortilèges is a major work in the repertoire. In a rapid procession of scenes, nearly 30 characters take us into a universe that is full of humour. The Teapot speaks to the Child in a delicious Franglais, the chairs converse with extreme politeness, and a little old man recites incorrect calculations. With a magician's touch, Grégoire Pont boosts the work’s fantasy element by creating beautiful animated images which interact with the singers. At one with the music, this game of hide and seek both surprises us and takes us into an enchanting world.
