**Opéra Underground et le Marché Gare présentent Jim Yamouridis
**
This Australian, of Greek origins, first became known in the 1990s on the Melbourne rock scene with his group The Stream. Their records, produced by Conway Savage of the Bad Seeds (Nick Cave’s band) have since become cult albums, with titles covered by PJ Harvey and John Parish.
Jim moved to France in 2000, where he has released a series of solo albums produced by Seb Martel – poetic gems that highlight his sepulchral voice and an acoustic world which is rather reminiscent of the best periods of Leonard Cohen.
With his latest album, Jim takes as his source the Greek Rebetiko, with original compositions which evoke a fantastical Piraeus, where the hashischins turn out to be Australian – with Jim Yamouridis playing the role of a Greek teller of tales, ensconced in hell.
