VIRTUAL VISIT

The building, reconstructed by Jean Nouvel, is a reference in contemporary theatrical architecture.

Placed in the town centre, in the Terreaux neighbourhood, at the foot of the historic “slopes of the Croix-Rousse”, and beside the banks of the Rhône, the Opéra National de Lyon was renovated in 1993.

The activity of the Opéra de Lyon was thereafter spread out across 17 levels: an immense cylindrical glass roof, lit up red on evenings when there is a show, rests on façades going back to 1831. The concert hall has become a black shell suspended in the heart of the building. This makes for a fascinating journey: the artistic project of the Opéra de Lyon is set in the very architecture of the building: all about modernity and innovation.
