About

In the reality of a world ruled by men, a community of women - mothers, sisters, warriors or witches - detects in sounds and songs a source of power and gesture. A source of affirmation to create a magical world filled with hope.

A feeling of hope and freedom
A leading figure on the contemporary South African scene, Gregory Maqom studied at  PARTS, the school of Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, one of the most popular choreographers. An icon involved in today's major issues, his dance, which never dissociates gesture and music, shows multiple influences, interweaving traditional motifs, popular and urban culture and the most contemporary dance there is. Designed for young and old - from the age of 7 and upwards - this is Gregory Maqoma's first collaboration with the Lyon Opera Ballet. At the center of this choreographic and musical creation are five women, four dancers and a singer, and a multi-faceted box revealing the melodies, identities and stories of which they are the custodians. “This magic box is like the world, it's a puzzle. The object has doors and it is up to these women to make their own choices: to enter their lives, but also to leave them", confides the choreographer for whom this show should allow everyone to leave “with a feeling of hope and freedom".
