Tom Rainey is one of the most inventive drummers on the New York scene, with 30 years of experience in striking the perfect balance between avant-garde projects and a more playful style of jazz. A long-time collaborator with Tony Malaby, Tim Berne and Nels Cline, in recent years Tom has chosen to focus on his own music. His offbeat trio includes Mary Halvorson, probably the most prominent guitarist of the new generation who recently received one of the MacArthur Foundation’s "genius" grants, and German saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock, a regular collaborator on Anthony Braxton’s projects.
Downbeat magazine’s Josef Woodard says Rainey’s music "remains beautiful without being sentimental."
