This cult group from Bogota is made of up of three of the city’s most adventurous musicians. Long-time friends Pedro Ojeda, Mario Galeano and Eblis Alvarez had all played in some of the most influential groups of the new Colombian music scene - Frente Cumbiero, Romperayo, Meridian Brothers, Ondatropica - and all three have done much to help South America’s tropical music revival: cumbia, vallenato, chicha, champeta, all of which had long been considered as “vulgar”. For nearly 20 years, Los Pirañas have mixed improvisation, noise and tropical rhythms with the creative genius of the great improvisers, the energy of punk and a provocative edge close to that of Dada.
