Compagnie Impériale’s GRIO (Grand Imperial Orchestra)
Polyrhythms and libertarian jazz
- Amphi de l’Opéra
- 1 hour 30 minutes
The latest project from the Compagnie Impériale draws its inspiration from the polyrhythms of the Central African Banda Linda horn ensembles and the libertarian jazz of the 1960s. This will come as no surprise to those familiar with the company - a constantly bubbling pot of creativity that has already given us the Orphéon project, inspired by the circus, opera and dance. At the heart of each of the Compagnie Impériale’s new musical projects is a form of jazz that is constantly reinventing itself, free from any formalism or limiting conventions - a free jazz in every sense of the word.
