About
In the language of the Wayuu, the†indigenous people whose ancestral homeland lies onThe border between Venezuela and Colombia, Aa’in means “soul”. Venezuelan singer Rebecca Roger and Colombian guitarist Sergio Laguado are trying to bring together the music of both countries by focusing on their common heritage. Aa’in draws on the region’s rich musical culture, and in particular joropos, the music of the llanos, the vast plains between Colombia and Venezuela where neither cattle nor music pay any heed to man-made borders. For this concert, Aa’in will be joined on stage by two outstanding Venezuelan artists : Jorge Glem, who plays the cuatro, the†national instrument more usually associated with Folk music but which Glem has brought into the classical, jazz and contemporary fields. And maraca player Manuel Rangel, a worthy heir to the llanero tradition which has produced many great masters of this rarely-showcased percussion instrument.
